How it all started...
In 1982, Church of God by Faith, Inc. (COGBF) announced the planting of its newest mission in Atlanta, Georgia.
The birth of the Atlanta church came about after several individuals and families relocated to the metro area in response to career changes, schooling, job opportunities, personal advancement, and a variety of other reasons. Before long, one of the relocated individuals,” Vivian Thomas, acted on an urge to start a Bible study in her apartment. As the small study group gained momentum, a mission was born.
In 1987, the Atlanta mission was jurisdictionally assigned to the newly formed Quad-States District by COGBF’s Executive Council. The Quad-States District was led by Elder Will Mann, Jr. who served as coordinator and organizer of a four-state network of churches which included: Texas, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia. Later, churches in Mississippi were added.
In 1988, Pastor Wayne Mack and wife, Lady Michelle, were appointed leaders of the Atlanta mission. They relocated from a two-year pastoral assignment in Clearwater, Florida.
In 1991-92, the Atlanta mission moved from its second YMCA location to its third home – the Interstate East Office Park on Ember Drive in Decatur, Georgia. This move was gave the now rising church a sense of presence, permanence and stability.
At the Ember Drive location, many positive developments were realized – the best of which was, the ability to launch a variety of ministries distinguished by this promising church’s Vision, Mission, and Purpose.
In 2009, the Atlanta COGBF experienced the faithfulness of God as He blessed this flourishing congregation with its current church facility – 4700 Mitchell Street. With that blessing, the Atlanta COGBF became affectionately known as Grace Place.
Today, the Grace Place church family is honored to serve as COGBF’s proud ambassadors for Christ in Atlanta. We are a loving, welcoming, Christ-centered group of people who love God and want more of Him. We are committed to responding to the needs of our community, bringing hope to unfulfilled hearts, and placing God’s Word within the reach of every person’s heart’s fingertips. Our vision for COGBF in Atlanta is to plant 7 additional churches.
It is our privilege to welcome every person who desires to experience the power, presence and peace of God to Grace Place.
So, be our guest in experiencing the awesomeness of God - by growing in grace, by grace, at Grace.
